Write documents with AI, and get a file you can actually use
Tinkerly writes reports, letters, plans, CVs and study guides with GPT. Describe what you need in a chat or in AI Docs, and you get a laid-out document with headings, tables and pictures that you can edit like a word processor, keep in your library, and download as Word or PDF.

How do you write a document with AI?
Say what the document is for, who reads it and roughly how long it should be. The AI drafts the whole document, laid out for its kind, and shows it before anything is saved. You keep it, ask for changes in plain words, or discard it.
Step 1: Ask for it
“A one-page cover letter for a junior designer job at a small studio”, or attach your notes and ask for a report from them.
Step 2: Check the draft
The document comes back with its headings, lists and tables in place, sized as A4 or Letter pages.
Step 3: Change it by asking
“Make it shorter”, “add a budget table”, “more formal”: the AI rewrites the whole document or just the part you select.
Step 4: Keep and download
Keep it to save it to your library, then download it as Word (.docx), PDF, Markdown or a web page.
What can the AI do inside a document?
Select any text to improve it, fix spelling and grammar, make it shorter or longer, change its tone, summarize it or ask a question about it. The result appears in a preview first, and nothing changes until you accept it.
Every AI change saves a version first, so you can always go back. The editor itself has what you expect from a word processor: paragraph styles, fonts, colours, tables with merged cells, page breaks, headers and footers with page numbers, find and replace, and an outline of the headings.
With web search on, drafting and “continue writing” look things up first and link each fact to its source, right in the document.
How is an AI document different from a chat answer?
A chat answer is text you copy somewhere else. An AI document is the finished file: pages, headings, tables and layout, saved in your library, editable, versioned and downloadable. You can still start it from a chat, where it shows as a card you keep or discard.
| Question | Chat answer | Tinkerly document |
|---|---|---|
| Layout | Plain text and lists | Pages, headings, tables, fonts |
| Editing | Copy, then edit elsewhere | Edit in place, or ask the AI |
| History | None | Versions, including before every AI change |
| Download | Copy and paste | Word, PDF, Markdown, web page |
What does it cost?
Each AI action costs the chosen model’s price per message, the same as a chat answer. A failed or empty answer costs nothing. Free accounts get 15 credits every day on the fast models. Writing and editing by hand is free.
Every model’s price is on the pricing page. Pictures the AI adds to a document are made only when you keep it, at the picture price, and the button says how many first.
